Abstract
The reduction of the switching loss and dynamic switching stress is one of the major aims of soft switching techniques. In this study, a passively clamped two switch quasi-resonant DC link converter (QRDLC) is presented in order to reduce the resonant power loss in resonant DC link converters. It preserves the advantages of resonant DC link converters such as soft switching condition, high frequency and simplicity. This study analyses a soft switching partial quasi resonant DC link converter, with zero voltage switching (ZVS), suitable for application in the high power and high frequency switching, especially for induction heating application. A comparative study between a classical DC/DC converter, and a quasi-resonant DC link converter, is made. The present resonant converter topology does indeed exist in a wide variety of forms. However, it originates from attempts to avoid simultaneously high voltage across and high current through the semiconductor devices when the device traverses from conducting to blocking state or vice versa. This converter has not only high power density but also possess very low switching losses since the switching of the devices is made at zero voltage or zero current instants. This study develops the calculation of the efficiency of the conventional DC/DC converter and the (QRDLC).
