Abstract

The energy expenditure of buildings has decreased in recent years, following considerable progress made by energy policies, not forgetting the implementation of norms and standards that have contributed to this decrease, but it still remains insufficient given the growing energy demand of today. In this context, our thesis work is part of a reflection aimed at addressing the issue of energy performance and thermal comfort in individual living spaces, with a particular focus on the city of Béjaïa. Our study also focuses on the creation of economical and high-performing constructions, emphasizing long-term sustainability and the well-being of occupants in the specific context of Béjaïa. To achieve this, we have undertaken a first phase of in-depth analysis of key concepts, followed by empirical field studies supported by simulations using software that generates summer and winter thermal balance sheets. The main objective of our research is to provide practical recommendations to improve the energy efficiency and well-being of occupants of individual residences in Béjaïa. We aim to propose vital, even existential solutions, regarding the creation of a model of comfortable homes that align with sustainable development practices, while minimizing energy use and preserving human health and the environment in the specific context of this city.
