Abstract
Building integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) installed in urban areas system is often subjected to shading problems caused by surrounding obstructions of irregular geometries such as: trees, overhangs, chimney, telephone poles, other buildings, etc. In fact, shading phenomena can cause a negative impact on the energy production of the photovoltaic conversion device (PV generator) which is mainly due to the reduction of incident solar irradiation. Furthermore, the non-uniform distribution of the irradiation on the plane of the photovoltaic generator (GPV) can induce high electrical mismatch losses, or even the appearance of the hot-spot problem meaning the destruction of the PV module cells. As an indication, in the German 1000 Roofs Program, it was recorded a 10% of energy loss due to partial shading. For estimating the PV generator energy losses under shading effect, several methods have been developed are described in the literature. However, the complexity and accuracy of these methods differ from each other. In this sense, this thesis contribute to the development of new methods for evaluating the energy losses inherent in partially shaded photovoltaic generators. More particularly, the aim of this thesis is to provide specialists working in the field of photovoltaic solar energy a new, simple and effective methods for calculating losses due to shading.
